The ReThink Waste webinar brought together passionate advocates, environmental experts, and over 30 participants for an insightful discussion on the growing waste crisis and the opportunities hidden within it. Hosted via Google Meet, the virtual event created a space for learning, meaningful conversation, and inspiration toward environmental responsibility.

The session featured two seasoned speakers making an impact in the sustainability space:

Sammy Purple, Founder of Troway Environmental Services

Understanding the Waste Problem

The first session, led by Victory Nzewi, focused on The Waste Problem: How It Affects Our
Health and Environment. She shed light on:

  • The alarming rate at which waste is generated in communities
  • How improper disposal leads to pollution, climate challenges, and public health risks
  • The need for behavioural change and community-driven solutions

Her presentation was practical and relatable, helping participants understand how everyday waste contributes to larger environmental issues.

From Waste to Wealth: The Recycling Opportunity

The second presentation, delivered by Sammy Purple, explored
From Waste to Wealth: Plastic Recycling. He discussed:

How plastic waste can be repurposed into valuable products

  • The economic opportunities within Nigeria’s recycling sector
  • Real examples of individuals and businesses converting waste into income
  • How young people can participate in the recycling value chain

His session encouraged participants to see waste not as a burden but as a resource.

Interactive Polls & Engagement

The webinar included interactive poll questions to assess participants’ knowledge and attitudes
